Poop!

I never thought that poop would be something I would have a phone conversation about. But last week I actually called both my mother and husband to announce that Aidan had finally gone #2 after a record 6 days. My life...is not the same.

Birth Story

I haven't had a chance to write down the story of Aidan's debut on the planet. I'm told that I may not remember it some day so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

Once upon a time...
I was truly huge. My ankles had disappeared. I was hot, I was tired, and I was ready to not be pregnant anymore. At the same time I felt so unprepared for Aidan's arrival. On Tuesday, June 5th I went in for my weekly check up and to my surprise I found out I was 2cm dilated. Although I had a feeling this was it, everyone told me I could walk around for weeks like that. Which is extremely weird... once centimeters (down there) get involved I feel like you shouldn't be walking around.

Starting at 2am I started hurting badly about every 2 minutes. One problem, though, I had read way too many pregnancy books and they said that the contractions would start out farther apart and then get closer together. So long story short I was in labor for 12 rather painful (okay reaaaaally painful) hours before I realized hey I should probably go to the hospital. By the time I got to triage I was 4cm dilated and 90% effaced. I had a fabulous epidural (with no tattoo judgment thank you very much). There were a few scary moments when Aidan's heartbeat dropped and she had to be turned from being face up. 5 hours after we made it to the hospital Aidan was born, weighing 6 lbs 12 ounces. Aside from losing a lot of blood and needing many many stitches everything went perfectly. Aidan is perfect and more beautiful than I could have possibly imagined. I do miss the codeine though.
